Weber: Bulgaria and Croatia Should Immediately Join Schengen

EPP Group Chairman Manfred Weber commented in a statement that Bulgaria and Croatia should immediately become part of the Schengen area.

"I want the Romanian government to put an end to the risks involved in the fight against corruption in order to allow all three countries to join Schengen," Weber said and added that in 2010 the European Commission has declared readiness for the entry of Bulgaria and Romania, BTA reported.

The statement was made to the European Parliament in response to the speech of the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

Croatia has been a member of the EU since 2013, and both Bulgaria and Romania - since 2007. According to the European media platform, “Euractiv”, both Juncker and Weber are aware of the impossibility of this to happen. At the moment Schengen enlargement is inadvisable because by doing this the project would be in danger due to migratory pressures.
