158 Bulgarian Servicemen Returned from Afghanistan

All 158 Bulgarian servicemen returned to Bulgaria from a mission in Afghanistan. They were welcomed back by the Bulgarian Minister of Defense, Krasimir Karakachanov.

The 35th Bulgarian contingent in Afghanistan arrived at the Sofia airport after being relieved by the 36th contingent. The servicemen took part in NATO’s Resolute Support mission.

Karakachanov said: “I’m happy that all that left came back alive and well. This was my desire when I sent them from Smolyan more than 6 months ago.” Karakachanov also added: “As Minister of Defense, my job is to make sure that the boys that go on a mission be well prepared, well armed, well secured, and they come back alive and well.”

The contingent includes a security company, a unit of advisors and staff officers in the NATO headquarters. Georgi Margitin is the National Commander of the Bulgarian contingent, major Stefan Dimov served as the commander of the security company, and Kamen Ivanov was a deputy National Commander.
