Since 2012, More Than 30 000 Macedonians Have Received Bulgarian Citizenship

Over 60 000 people have received Bulgarian citizenship from the beginning of 2012 until the middle of June 2018.

Macedonians have received the largest number of passports according to the data of the Bulgarian Citizenship Commission.

By reasoning - under proof of origin, 37 133 people from Macedonia, Albania, and Kosovo have received Bulgarian citizenship.

According to the motive of having one parent with Bulgarian citizenship, 26 108 Macedonians received citizenship. The refusals for the same period are 4458, and the reasons include non-fulfilment of conditions, the impossibility of proving the origin, etc.

The tendency for the number of applicants to grow is sustainable since Bulgaria is part of the EU. Applicants from Macedonia, Ukraine, Albania, Moldova, Serbia, Romania, and Greece are currently waiting for the Commission to give them citizenship. One of the main reasons behind the document is the ability for them to work in the EU without any problems.
