Kosovo's PM Asks the Vatican For Recognition

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj asked the Vatican to recognize Kosovo as an independent state.

During his official visit, Haradinaj met with the Vatican’s state secretary Pietro Parolin. After the visit, Kosovo’s PM published a Facebook post, saying: “We received a warm reception from the Holy See and the state secretary Pietro Parolin. Kosovo is looking for a diplomatic partnership with the Vatican state and in order to this, recognition from the Holy See is a needed step. Cardinal Parolin, I expressed the dedication of our country to preserve and advance our relationship while His Eminence encouraged us to go on our Euro-Atlantic path.”

Kosovo is a partially recognized territory that separated from Serbia in 2008.

During the EU-Balkan summit in Sofia, the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia met. Two protesters waved a “Kosovo is Serbia” flag in front of the summit building at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.
