Macedonia to be Renamed "Ilinden Macedonia"

During the EU-Western Balkans summit, the prime ministers of Macedonia and Greece met in order to solve the naming dispute for Macedonia.

The new reported name is “Ilinden Macedonia.”

According to Macedonian media outlets, Greece’s PM Alexis Tsipras and Macedonia’s PM Zoran Zaev agreed on the name “Ilinden Macedonia.”

If true, that would mean the previous official options given by Zaev were ignored. It would also not please the Greek hardliners who want to completely remove the name “Macedonia” from their Northern neighbour.

Zaev stated that an agreement was already reached during the EU-Western Balkans summit, and he would hope that the dispute will be settled before the next EU summit in Brussels.
