Head of the Macedonian Church Hopes the Bulgarian Orthodox Church will Honor the 1000-year Anniversary

The Archbishop of Ohrid - Stefan expressed his hopes that he would be joined by the Bulgarian head of state as well as the head of the Bulgarian church for the 1000-year celebration of the Ohrid Archbishopric.

Archbishop Stefan said that he has already invited both the President and the Patriarch of Bulgaria and added that the Archbishopric of Ohrid plays a significant role in the history of all peoples in the region.

The celebrations will take place on May 27th and 28th. A prayer for St. Clement will take place in the temple of the Archbishopric "St. Sophia". As Stefan pointed out there aren't many institutions that can say they have been around for a full millennium.

The Archbishopric of Ohrid has played an important part in the lives of Orthodox Christians in the Balkans. It was both a cultural and religious centre throughout its history.

Last year, the Macedonian Orthodox Church officially asked the Bulgarian Patriarchate for a communion.
