200,000 Tourists Went Skiing in Bulgaria During the Season

The Institue for analysis and evaluation of Tourism stated that the winter season in the skiing resorts - Bansko, Borovetz, Pamporovo, and Vitosha was very successful. This season alone 200,000 people chose to go skiing in Bulgaria this winter.

The total number of tourists who have visited Bulgaria for the period December 2017 - March 2018 is 1.2 million.

The Bulgarian National Television reports that half of these 200,000 people picked Bansko as their skiing/snowboarding destination. The municipality of Bansko reports a 15% increase in the number of guests. Many of the visitors went for other reasons as well - for instance, to spend the winter holidays. Students and parents used their days off to enjoy some time in the mountains as well.

Hotel owners in Bansko are happy with the aftermath of this past season. 85% of the beds were taken. The main flow of tourists came from - Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Russia, and Turkey. However, owners of shops and markets complain that tourists rarely leave the hotels to go shopping - an evergrowing tendency over the past couple of years.
