Between the dates of September 30 – October 1, 2017 Plovdiv will be the host for the second World Drone Racing Championship. It will take place on playing field №5 at Plovdiv’s rowing base. The drone races will resemble car races with a built track and checkpoints through which the racers should pass. The one who makes the fastest run of three laps, with the lowest amount of mistakes will be the champion. The difference between regular racing and drone racing is that it takes place in the air and participant may only use the drone’s integrated camera for navigation.

The second World Drone Racing Championship has been brought with the help of the municipality of Plovdiv, the aeromodelism club “Model Club - Plovdiv”, the Bulgarian National Federation of aeromodelism and Technical University of Sofia – filial Plovdiv. This year, participants from five different countries will take part in it.
